OPRA Day 2019

18.06.2019 Sonja Wühr, translated by: Rebecca Di Francesco

On 6 June 2019 our annual OPRA Day took place at the Dorint Hotel in Frankfurt am Main. In cooperation with the medium-sized pharmaceutical company Engelhard Arzneimittel, we offered around 30 participants an exciting program ranging from the introduction of OPRA and the live system at Engelhard via SAP HANA XSA to interesting additional topics such as IoT and predictive maintenance.

Optimized Proactive Lifecycle Approach

Jürgen Klaus from IT-Informatik explained the technology behind OPRA, the system requirements, the modules and how a holistic maintenance approach can be implemented with OPRA.

As a 100% SAP-based modular system that requires no middleware or interfaces, OPRA makes maintenance in SAP even more efficient. It offers simple and low-cost recording as well as structured data generation and storage.

Digital Maintenance with OPRA

Christian Belzer, technical manager at Engelhard Arzneimittel, explained in a practical way how maintenance with OPRA works. Eight production lines are manufactured in a three-shift system at the Niederdorfelden site. It took seven months from kick-off to go-live.

Where previously long travel times, forgotten or delayed data feedback and opaque maintenance processing in paper form prevailed, the process of maintenance processing with OPRA brought the following benefits:

  • Enormous time saving & productivity increase
  • Reduction of data/information loss
  • Prompt data feedback & high data up-to-dateness
  • Maintenance processing via digital checklist
  • Reduction of paper-based processes

Smart Factory, Predictive Maintenance & SAP HANA XSA

Within the framework of a pilot project, Engelhard Arzneimittel is investigating the possibilities and advantages of IoT. Mr. Belzer explained a project presentation with a look at the live system.

Other speakers from IT-Informatik talked about "Predictive Maintenance with Data from SAP PM" and "The Future with SAP HANA XSA". With SAP HANA XSA, it will be possible in the future to operate applications as software-as-a-service, including OPRA.

"A good event that brings added value."

The participation of the participants was very high, many questions were asked, which led to a lively discussion. The OPRA Day was praised as an event that brings added value for interested parties. In the lecture "SAP HANA XSA" it was noted that more practical relevance is desired. Here, of course, we pledge improvement and will make up for it at the next OPRA Day 2020.
